Bring The Wonderful World of Opera to Our Schools
Dear AOS Members;
We are dedicated to bringing the experience of live opera performances to students in our Aiken County Schools. Because of your generosity, we have been able to schedule opera performances in ten schools this 2008-09 season. We are exposing 3000 school children to the wonderful world of opera. How exciting is that?!
As you will note, Augusta Opera will be performing “Pirates of Penzance” for five schools this year. It is an excellent production and we’ve received raves reviews from the schools that participated in 2008. FBN productions will be presenting “Pinnochio” for two elementary schools. This company does an excellent job in presenting children’s opera and they have been especially generous in reducing their price to accommodate our budget.
You are cordially invited to attend any and all in-school opera performances. If you plan to attend, please report to the main office and sign in as a visitor with Aiken Opera Society. The administrative assistant will be able to tell you where the performance will take place. Plan to stand because the kids are often sitting on the floor in a cafeteria or gym.
I promise the experience will make your day. The performances are 45 minutes in length and are always run according to the schedule. I hope you will try to find time to visit at least one school during the 2009 performances.
